Apple pie – a traditional dish in America

Apple pie is an unofficial symbol of the United States and one of the country’s signature comfort foods. This is a type of cake whose main ingredient is apples, originating from England. It is often served with whipped cream, ice cream or cheddar cheese. Apple pie usually has two crusts, both above and below the filling; The upper shell may be block or mesh.

Apple pie can be made with many different types of apples, including fresh, canned or dried apples. Dried or canned apples are usually only used as a substitute at times when fresh fruit is not available. The filling usually includes sugar, butter and cinnamon, sometimes also lemon juice or nutmeg; Many old recipes use honey instead of expensive sugar.

The first American cookbook, “American Cookery”, included two recipes for apple pie, neither of which claimed the origin of the recipe. By the early 20th century, pie was considered an important part of American culture. In the early 1920s, the dish was featured in literary works, and by the 1940s, ‘as American as apple pie’ was coined as an expression of patriotism. Although apple pie is not of American origin, its presence in the nation’s history has made it an irreplaceable symbol in the hearts of Americans.
