Hansi Flick already knows who will be Lewandowski’s backup at Barcelona next season
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has some major decisions to take in the coming days as the new season gets closer and closer.
During his detailed interview on Barça One recently, Flick touched upon how he wants his team to play and suggested that the Blaugrana need to be more clinical in attack and show greater killer instincts in front of goal.
In Robert Lewandowski, Flick has a great centre-forward, who despite going through a bad phase last season, ended up scoring 26 goals.
But there are some concerns as far as a backup for the veteran striker goes, with Vitor Roque likely to be on his way out and Marc Guiu already sold.
Flick to trust Ferran Torres
Now, though, Toni Juanmarti of SPORT reports that Hansi Flick has narrowed in on Ferran Torres to operate as the backup No. 9 for Barcelona next season and trusts the Spaniard to deliver.
Ferran finished the last season with 11 goals despite not being a starter for large parts. Although initially signed as a winger, the Spaniard has been utilised as a central striker and is seen as a player who complements Lewandowski’s qualities to perfection.
There have been talks about Torres being sold, but the Spanish international has always stood firm on not wanting to leave and is expected to stay put at Barcelona.
Lewandowski will obviously be the offensive reference for Flick’s Barça. Both won the treble at Bayern and since then the coach’s confidence in the Pole is maximum.
And the German tactician believes that Ferran’s characteristics are in line with what he expects from an alternative striker for certain playing contexts, especially in the second half when the games open up.
